Liberal or Conservative minds in the Supreme Court, does it matter?

It really does matter if a Supreme Court Justice is conservative or liberal. The Supreme Court justices aren't suppose to be influenced by their own views. They are supposed to strictly interpret the constitution. However, they are human, and their own values tend to influence their decisions. This is why it matters so much if they are conservative or liberal. What if Congress and the President pass a law that gay people could marry? If someone challenged this law all the way to the Supreme Court, they would have to decide if it was constitutional or not. If the Supreme Court justices are mostly conservative they could vote that it was unconstitutional. Their job is to give a voice to the Constitution, not use their own to make decisions that they want to see happen. What if one of the laws said that people who were taller than 6 feet got a tax cut and all of the Justices were taller than that. They could use their power to say it was constitutional because it benefits them. How can we make sure their making their decision based on the constitutions and not their own views? How can we make sure that the Supreme Court justices don't use THEIR views to make their decisions just the constitution's? How is that fair for the people? Do they have too much power?

I have never thought of the supreme court having to much power, but they only have power over court cases brought to them. I also feel some of the reasons we elect them is becuase of their personal views. They are in office because they have good views and beleifs on what is fair and not fair or what is constitutional and un-contitutional. I also have a question for you, there are nine justices in the supreme court so there has to be at least one more person that is either a democrat or republican. At the moment is there more democrat or republican, should there be an independant just to be safe?

I think there should be someone that is an idependent on the supreme court to make a swing vote if there is one need or just to be able to let the two political parties join and come to a consenses. Right now there are 2 democrats and 7 republicans on the Supreme Court.

i think that maybe all of the justices should be independent then there's no big biased.

Yes, that would be the best, but I don't think thhere is anyway that is going to happen. The presidents pick the Justices, they want the justtices to be mostly on their side so they choose ones that are from the same party. It really is just a selfish act to make sure that if you make a law or pass one that you want to see happen no matter what that every branch can cover you.

Yes!
They have WAY too much power.

If only there were an extremely advanced constitutional robot judges that could perfectly determine a persons offense.
But there aren't so...
We have to trust in the dopes to make the right decisions.
And I don't know what a political liberal is, but based on what the dictionary says...
I'm definitely one, because I believe in progressive thinking.
